PRESS STATEMENT ON MURDER OF JESUS TABANAO
Cebu Citizens-Press Council
Sept. 16, 2013

The Cebu Citizens-Press Council (CCPC) is asking the police to speed up the investigation on the shooting to death of Jesus “Jessie” Tabanao last Saturday.

The investigation, CCPC hopes, will determine if he was killed because of his work as public information officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), as anchorperson of a weekly radio program against drugs, or for some other reason.

Whatever the motive, the murder cannot be condoned. It is a breach of order in our peace-loving community and, if he was killed for what he talked about on radio, an assault on the right to free speech.
