Statement of Cebu Citizens-Press Council
on the death of Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc

Dec. 26, 2015

Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc was more than the editor-in-chief of a prestigious national newspaper. To community journalists particularly, she embodied the ideals of journalism they could aspire for: her newsroom leadership, her courage in resisting repression in the dark days of martial law, and her passion and creativity in steering the “Inquirer” to its enviable place in the industry.

She knew her power to set the agenda, which Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham says is deciding what to print and what not to print, but she used it fearlessly and responsibly for what she believed was for public good.
