CCPC commends Cebuanos for journalism honors

RESOLUTION OF CEBU CITIZENS-PRESS COUNCIL (CCPC)
congratulating and expressing appreciation for journalism honors won by Nini B. Cabaero and Eileen G. Mangubat

CONSIDERING that last May 3, 2013, NINI B. CABAERO, Sun.Star News Exchange and Sun.Star Online editor-in-chief, was chosen by Center for Media Freedom & Responsibility (CMFR) as Sandra Burton-Nieman fellow, one of 24 journalists from all over the world and across media platforms, the sole journalist from the Philippines. Ms. Cabaero is spending one school year, starting last August, at Harvard University in Cambridge in the United States. She is the first journalist from Cebu to qualify for the Sandra Burton-Nieman fellowship;

CONSIDERING that last May 2, 2013, EILEEN G. MANGUBAT, Cebu Daily News publisher and acting editor-in-chief, was selected by the Canadian Embassy as McLuhan Fellow for 2013. She will travel to Canada in February for a two-week study and speaking tour. She is the first journalist from Cebu and the third community journalist in the country to qualify as McLuhan fellow.

CONSIDERING that both journalists have brought singular honor to Cebu journalism and journalists, not only exemplifying the finest ideals and practice of the craft but also encouraging their colleagues and future practitioners to follow their example.

CONSIDERING that the mandate of the Cebu Citizens-Press Council (CCPC) includes the recognition of outstanding accomplishments of Cebu journalists;

BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved that the Council formally recognize the achievements of NINI B. CABAERO and EILEEN G. MANGUBAT and convey to them the appreciation of a grateful media community.

BE IT RESOLVED further that copies of this resolution be sent to the honorees, the media organizations concerned and the Canadian Embassy and be posted on the CCPC website.

APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY at the quarterly en banc meeting of the Council on Dec. 5, 2013 at the MBF Cebu Press Center, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines.
