“TABANG!” a handy manual on news safety, is now being distributed by Cebu Citizens-Press Council to journalists of five daily newspapers, 14 news-and-public affairs radio and TV stations, and journalism schools.
Produced by CCPC, with the support of Mandaue Print Shop Corp., the manual differs from other available manuals in that it is intended primarily for Cebu journalists.
“While survival guides for journalists abound,” says the CCPC explanation that introduces “Tabang!” it is different “because (1) content is chosen with Cebu media practitioners and the local media environment in mind and (2) materials are drawn not just from international experts but also from community resource persons in consultations conducted by the CCPC.”
The manual was produced after the consultation made during the 14th quarterly en banc membership meeting held last March 26, 2009 at the MBF Cebu Press Center.
Mass com professors and instructors have been encouraged to discuss, using “Tabang!” among other resource materials, the issue of news safety with their students from whose ranks future journalists will come.
