Erma Cuizon, SunStar Cebu editorial consultant and former SunStar Weekend editor, passed away at 5 p.m. on November 9, weeks after suffering a fracture following a tumble down the stairs. She was 81.

Cuizon had three essay compilations, “Time of Year” (Giraffe Books, 1999), “Vital Flow” (UST Publishing House, 2001) and “Woman” (University of San Carlos Press, 2014); a fiction collection, “Homecoming and Other Stories” (UST Publishing House, 2000); and a creative non-fiction, “Twilight in Misamis” (University of San Carlos Press, 2014). She published the novel, “Women in the House,” in 2006.

She won literary awards for fiction, including a Philippines Free Press award for her short story “Homecoming.” She also received a Mariano Manguerra Award for Outstanding Writer in the Literary Arts.

Cuizon co-founded the first women’s literary group in the country, Women in Literary Arts, in 1991.
